After a sloppy practice in sloppy weather, Coach Jay Gruden challenged his players to have a perfect practice Friday. In perfect weather, that is just what they did.
This is just the fluff that teams and media feed to fans. In truth, we eat this stuff up. The best editorial policy in preseason is to push reasons why the team will win while ignoring most everything else. First day jitters likely had as much to do with poor practice as Thursday’s rain did. Do you know that shaky feeling at the first tee on the first hole before a gallery at an amateur golf tournament? Yeah. It’s like that. The real nugget in this fluff story is that Gruden installed “50 or 60” plays for the offense to work on Friday.
Neon Deion visited Redskins training camp for the NFL Network Friday. He tweeted that DeAngelo Hall is one of the best corners in the game. I bet he says that to all the pretty DBs he visits.

Hog Heaven confesses his love-hate relationship with D.Hall who earned our man love after his 2013 season. Sanders panders to the base level of sentiment. His football analysis is unfailingly superficial. That’s too bad. His accomplishments and knowledge of the game are deep. He should be giving us more on the level of Terrell Davis, Solomon Wilcox, Willie McGinest and Marshall Faulk. Still, young NFL players love Sanders and seek his endorsement.

“Defensive end Jason Hatcher said he remains unsure when the team will activate him from the physically unable to perform list and clear him for practice. Hatcher called patience the key to a full and effective recovery.”
Hatcher’s recovery bears watching, but does not yet rise to the level of “concern.” He is the most important new piece add to the defense. Hatcher must perform at a high level all season. A few extra days, or weeks, spent on his full recovery is a small price to pay. Nobody talks about Jarvis Jenkins anymore. Wonder how Adam Carriker is doing?
“Orakpo has gone about his business here at training camp with his sights set squarely on the regular season opener in Houston on Sept. 7.”
So, when will you people quit asking him about his contract?

Gruden was asked the question in context of RGIII’s happiness with the new atmosphere around the team. RG comes across as very naive sometimes. There is more than happy talk in Gruden’s comment. Hope the kid is taking notes.
“Second-year running back Chris Thompson is vying for the third-down back role and appeared to have a strong practice, particularly in the pass-catching department. Thompson flashed his quickness as he eluded linebacker Darryl Sharpton at the line. Rookie Lache Seastrunk — one of Thompson’s competitors — didn’t have much experience as a pass-catcher while at Baylor, but he appears to be comfortable in this capacity for the Redskins. Seastrunk during one play in one-on-one drills made a juggling catch with linebacker Will Compton draped over him.”
This is the most high profile camp battle on the Redskins.
Ex-Redskins TE Fred Davis turned himself in to the D.C. Police after an ex-girlfriend charged him with environmental domestic abuse.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a Court of law. I have the feeling this charge will quietly go away. The charge alone is enough to delay Davis’ return to the NFL following his current suspension. We once thought of Davis as we now think of Jordan Reed — a lesson about taking the future for granted. You never know what the future holds.
