Obi-Wan where are you? Redskins need a new Jedi Master for the O-line

The “10-6” Redskins record predictions are no longer to be seen in comments on Redskins articles after the loss to the Texans.  What now?

What was so disconcerting about the Texans game was watching one player, JJ Watt, almost single-handedly beat an entire NFL team.  It is not that the Redskins now hold the longest losing streak in the NFL; it is that the same issues that led to the losses last year showed their ugly head this game.  Namely Special Teams blunders, horrific pass protection, anemic offense, turnovers, abandoning the run, Rambo whiffing on a tackle.

The good news is most of these are fixable in the first quarter of the season.  The Defense is a Swearinger-like Safety away from being a Top 5 group.  Minus the fumble, Niles Paul gets a ‘most improved’ award – he’s ready to ball this season.  Andre Roberts – a baller.  Keenan the Barbarian Robinson – incredible debut.

The bad news is that Chris Foerster somehow has figured out to a way to remain the offensive line coach for the Redskins.  With his Jedi mind tricks, he somehow convinced Gruden to keep him as a coach and keep his pathetic line mostly in place.  Why would you trust Foerster to draft Offensive Lineman when all his past draft choices are backups, should be backups or were cut? (Except Trent Williams, but it was Trent or Okung so even throwing a dart that draft would have ended well.)

The Redskins now proudly have the worst offensive line in the NFC East if not the entire NFL.  “But they zone block really good!” That may be true, but if you can’t pass block, you are not an NFL Offensive Line, and you lose your ability to keep the run.

The pounding RG3 took was simply disgraceful.  And shame on the fans ready to pounce on him after he was already flattened like a pancake an astonishing 17 times.  Yes, he needs improvement, but he’s a damn hard worker, a gifted athlete and he took a licking like I’ve never seen and didn’t complain a peep.

How many six packs would you have to down to take the dare of standing behind Chris Chester and Tyler Polumbus with JJ Watt on the other side ready to prove he’s worth $100 million?  RG3 took punishment like an MMA fight that should have stopped in the first round and kept going for five.

RG3 clearly doesn’t have the Offensive Line he needs to succeed and grow quickly. The entire NFL knows this, so get your maple syrup ready if you want to watch any QB behind this Offensive Line.  RG3 will grow, but not so quickly, and somehow this team needs to gain confidence fast and win despite their obvious Achilles Heel – the Offensive Line.  The Redskins need a new Jedi Master.
