The Real Story Behind the Seattle Loss

Mike Ribeiro

It’s not that Redskins season is over (it is).

It’s not that the Redskins still need to find their identity (they have one – they are a very good, bad team).

It’s not that the Offensive Line is the weak link of the team (everyone knows it is).

The real story behind the scenes was the painful fact of watching third round pick Russell Wilson demonstrate that he forever will be the superior and healthier quarterback than RG3.

We are again slapped with the lack of coherent Redskins’ strategy for the last two decades.  Poor drafting (the Redskins love to give up first round picks for some reason and have so few playing on the team compared to all other NFL teams) and chasing after the wrong free agent personnel.  It is clear that what’s needed is a strategy and a plan, no more prop ups.

The Seahawks had a plan.  They survived their idiotic mistake to bring in Matt Flynn.  The Cowboys had a different plan (use their first round picks for years on the Offensive Line).  They survived what could have been a disaster on defense.  What matters is that they had a plan and stuck to it.  The Redskins have been running in circles for decades now and trying to prop up teams that are not good enough to make a run.

If Gruden doesn’t convince Snyder of a plan (i.e. a massive shift towards drafting first round offensive lineman, finding discarded first rounders, etc.), expect the coaches and the fans to continue this ridiculous ritual of pretending the team is ‘almost there’ and will get there with this one pick or this free agent.
