Trey Williams walks in Lache Seastrunk’s footsteps. Maybe.
Redskins fans started drooling last year when they saw Redskins’ 6th round draft pick Lache Seastrunk’s highlights. Pound the defense with Morris; fatigue them with Seastrunk’s monster cuts and acceleration.
Well that dream ended in the same manner as most Redskins fans dreams, in the dumpster. Not only was Seastrunk cut, he was also recently cut from the Titans (he made it to their Practice Squad last year).
Seastrunk was doomed by:
- no Special Teams play
- no ability to pick up blitzes
- little perceived ability to catch screen passes
- no ability to block.
Enter UDFA Trey Williams. One cannot help but remember Seastrunk when seeing Williams’ highlights.

One difference is Williams comes in with Special Teams kickoff return ability and experience. Another is his ability to catch screen passes (though he does have small hands). The thing to watch this summer and hopefully through the preseason, is whether he can massively improve his blocking (he admits he isn’t great at it) and whether he can pick up blitzes.
If he excels at those, he has a chance to stick with the Redskins. Otherwise, it’s yet another burner failure.
