Redskins and Media talk from both sides of their mouths about RGIII

The Redskins and the media are blowing smoke where the sun don’t shine when it comes to embattled quarterback Robert Griffin III.

A case in point is Pro Football Talk, no friend of the Redskins.  Here are two stories published on the same day, Sunday, August 30, 2015, on PFT.

Aug. 30, 2015, 5:02 PM EDT, by Michael David Smith, Report: Football people want RG3 out of town, Snyder says no.

“From all indications, Coach Jay Gruden — who spent most of the offseason insisting that Griffin would be the starter — has lost any confidence he ever had in Griffin as a quarterback. Both Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy have far outplayed Griffin this preseason. General Manager Scot McCloughan, who was hired this year, has no particular loyalty to Griffin either.

“But Snyder has loved Griffin since the team traded up in the 2012 draft to get him, and Snyder apparently isn’t willing to let go. And that’s the only thing keeping Griffin in Washington.”

Aug. 30, 2015, 8:02 PM EDT, by Mike Florio, Sources say Snyder, football operation are on the same page.

“Reports of a two-hour meeting between Snyder and McCloughan may have pushed the needle in the direction of a disagreement between McCloughan/Gruden and Snyder, but a source with knowledge of the situation told PFT that the meeting was focused on sorting out exactly what happened with Griffin being cleared to play after suffering a concussion and then not being cleared to play. That discrepancy fueled the latest spike in perceived dysfunction, but it’s not yet gotten to the point where the guy whose primary job is to sign the checks is getting in the way of the people whose primary jobs are to run the football team.”

Both these tales cannot be true.

Florio’s story has the feel of spin control. But who can tell? These run-away stories don’t inspire confidence in the competence of team executive. We have had that sense for quite some time, though.

Media stories about the ‘Skins were usually consistent until last week.

Hog Heaven is still a Griffin fan, but something in me turned cold watching Griffin in the Lions preseason game. It’s going to take a few more years for RG to master the pocket.

I am as appalled at how the brain trust, including the man himself, mismanaged Griffin’s career, as I am amazed at how RG has become the most controversial player on the team.

These wildly conflicting media tales are as much of a dumpster fire as the Redskins now seem to be.

Tired of watching yet I cannot turn away.
