Although Wednesday’s almost-comeback loss to the Atlanta Hawks at home was a decent setback in the Nets’ quest to reach the playoffs, a Heat loss last night to the Bulls gave Brooklyn some good news heading into another game tonight, this one against Paul Pierce and the Wizards.
Now tied for No. 8 in the East with the Celtics, who take on the Cavaliers on Friday, and a game up on the Pacers–who are in Detroit tonight–and 1.5 ahead of the Heat–idle–the Nets get to face a Washington team at Barclays that is missing its best player–John Wall– due to rest. Power forward Nene and former Net and Celtic Paul Pierce–who have been held out of recent games–will suit up for Randy Wittman, though, in what is another important tilt for Brooklyn.
The Wizards struggled for a good portion of March but have found their stride lately, winning five in a row as they fight to possibly reach the No. 3 Bulls, or at least leapfrog the No. 4 Raptors. Washington is 1.5 games in back of Chicago and just a game behind Toronto at the moment.
Probable Lineups
WAS- Ramon Sessions (PG), Bradley Beal (SG), Paul Pierce (SF), Nene (PF), Marcin Gortat (C)
BKN- Deron Williams (PG), Markel Brown (SG), Joe Johnson (SF), Thaddeus Young (PF), Brook Lopez (C)
Final Thoughts
For the Nets, with just three games left in the season after this one, a win–especially against a shorthanded Wizards team–could be used in the worst way. Alan Anderson is still out with an ankle injury, but with Brook Lopez, Deron Williams and Thaddeus Young playing well, Brooklyn should have enough weapons to give them a chance in this one.
