Although both the Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets spent Tuesday evening in New York City, they’ll meet each other down in North Carolina tonight in the first meeting of the season between these two teams. Last night, while the Nets took down the Hawks in Brooklyn, Steve Clifford’s Hornets were in Manhattan, losing to the Knicks 102-94 as star rookie Kristaps Porzingis scored 29 points to lead New York.
Bronx native Kemba Walker scored a game-high 31 in the loss for Charlotte, which has won three of its last five games and have some surprising wins this season over teams like the Bulls and Mavericks. The Hornets made a bunch of moves this offseason, including trading for Nicolas Batum and Jeremy Lamb and signing Jeremy Lin, all of whom are averaging over 10 points a game so far and have contributed to what is actually a good offense.
Still, though, the Hornets’ scoring attack starts with Walker, who is the main ball-handler, and ends with big man Al Jefferson, who always seems to give the Nets trouble. Charlotte has become a pretty balanced team with a fairly deep bench, so this is unquestionably an improved roster from last year’s 33-win disappointment.
Probable lineups
BKN- Jarrett Jack (PG), Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (SG), Joe Johnson (SF), Thaddeus Young (PF), Brook Lopez (C)
CHA- Kemba Walker (PG), Nicolas Batum (SG), Marvin Williams (SF), Cody Zeller (PF), Al Jefferson (C)
Final thoughts
With both sides playing for the second night in a row, the team that has the most energy and is able to have the legs to make shots will be the team that wins. Both teams could use another victory, especially the Nets, so this is an important one to steal, on the road no less.
