An offseason, on two fronts

Anything-other-than-first-place-is-last-place

With the 2015-16 Brooklyn Nets season now a week old, thankfully, the offseason for all non-playoff NBA teams has begun. As the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers and other organizations compete for a championship, the Nets are at home as they look ahead to a season with a new coach, a new front office and a partially new roster.

The Nets will not be winning any titles soon, that’s for sure. The franchise has a mountain of bad contracts and draft pick debts to overcome before it can make any progress going forward as it tries to get back to the playoffs the right way, through player development and creation of a true winning culture in Brooklyn. In order to make the Nets a destination for free agents, the front office has to ensure stability from top to bottom, a process which is already well underway.

So, as the Nets embark on one of the most important offseasons in franchise history, Brooklyn Balling will be watching from a bit of a distanced view. I’m going to be stepping back from the daily requirements of the site for a few months, at least until August or so, in order to focus on schoolwork and contribute more feature-type to articles to NetsDaily.

I haven’t been able to devote as much time to the site — as I’m sure all five of you have noticed — in the past couple of months, which was partly due to the unwatchable nature of most of the Nets’ March and April games but also because of a really busy time for myself. I don’t want to half-ass this site; it’s been a key aspect of my life for the past six years and I either want to run it with the effort/time required or not run it at all.

Don’t worry, there’ll be news/commentary/sometimes feature pieces on here over the next couple of months — and this hiatus is completely temporary — but just not as much as you’ve been accustomed to seeing since I opened up shop when the Nets still played in Newark. The Nets are transitioning, as am I, and we’ll both be back soon.
