SB Nation BlogPoll College Football Top 25 Rankings »
So I'm starting to have a hard time with the whole polling thing. Why? Because I try to take the SB Nation Blogpoll seriously, look at data, look at records, look at strength of schedule, do the mental simulations in my head of who wins head to head, etc. And I've concluded to my satisfaction that there is no way to rank order athletic teams. I have put together rankings for this week, but I'm not sure what they MEAN. And I'm not sure what they mean because I really think that any team in the top 15 is pretty evenly matched. Parity is here in college football and the SEC is strong, but not nearly as strong as most pundits seem to think. If you put a gun to my head, I would say yeah, I think Oregon is the number 1 team in the country. But so much randomness can happen, that even though I think that, it's no guarantee that they win out and hold on to that top spot. I suppose that I'm suffering from existential polling anxiety. And to deal with it is to acknowledge the absurd process for what it is, and just focus on cheering the Irish on in their next three games. Peace.
