The 2013 Notre Dame NFL Draft Finisher

bettmancrosby

The 2013 NFL Draft is over and this unofficially ends the 2012 season. Now we can sit back and "enjoy" about 3 months of baseball. YEAH!!!!

Just bash me in the balls with a garden rake and rub dried oregano in my eyes. I'm strong- I CAN TAKE IT, YOU SON OF A BITCH!!!…

Or, at least, that's what I am telling myself right now just to stay out of the mental hospital. So… lets finish this season with a draft wrap and seance.

There were 9 Notre Dame players that got married to NFL teams during and after the draft. Six were drafted, while three signed as undrafted free agents. Here is the list:

  • Tyler Eifert. 1st round. Cincinnati Bengals
  • Manti Te'o. 2nd round. San Diego Chargers
  • Jamoris Slaughter. 6th round. Cleveland Browns
  • Theo Riddick. 6th round. Detroit Lions
  • Kapron Lewis-Moore. 6th round. Baltimore Ravens
  • Zeke Motta. 7th Round. Atlanta Falcons
  • Braxston Cave. UDFA. Cleveland Browns
  • Mike Golic. UDFA. Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Cierre Wood. UDFA. Houston Texans

Not too bad, considering the way the draft has been fairly quiet for the Irish over the past few years. The six players drafted is the most since the 2007 NFL Draft that saw 7 Irish players get their name called.

PRO TIP: One thing I learned a long time ago was to become emotionally unattached to the Notre Dame players during the entire draft process.

Basically, if they weren't somehow involved with my team (Packers) I tried to think of them as just another player in the draft. I stay out of most debates and the such for the most part, and generally give off a "meh" attitude as you can probably tell if you have been a reader of Subway Domer for even a short while.

However, I can say that once a player is drafted, I can't help but be overjoyed for them. That's the part of the fan in me that will never just go away. I want these guys to succeed and get everything they work for. And if they sign as UDFA's- I'm still happy as a doped up clown for them. It may not have happened exactly how they planned or wanted it to, but they get their chance.

That's what this really all boils down to once you take the money out of the equation. These 9 guys will all have a chance to make an NFL roster and get paid to do the thing they love.

That's fucking awesome. Congrats to all of these guys and good luck to the rest of us from now until August as we scrap together any bit of football news and commentary that we can.

HELLO 2013!!!
