Phil B covers the offday…

Lots of notes from the Star’s intrepid blogger

* Miami Dolphins SLB Jason Taylor, who is making the switch to outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme from defensive end, has 121 1/2 sacks in his 13-year career, which ties for 13th on the all-time list. He’s sacked the Colts’ Peyton Manning five times. When I reminded Taylor that he hasn’t sacked Manning since 2003, he laughed and said, “Here’s hoping.” I’ve enjoyed Taylor’s candor in conference calls over the years. Three years ago, I asked him about being a contender for NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors with San Diego’s Shawne Merriman, to which Taylor made headlines when he said a player who had been suspended for violating the substance abuse policy should not be eligible for postseason honors. His best quote today, IMHO, was about Manning: “It seems like every year he gets a year older and he gets even better than he was the previous year.”
