First period: Flyers come into this game on a hot streak and it really shows. First five minutes of the game was fast paced. Flyers doing a great job on breaking the puck out of the zone early on. Just five minutes in, Brayden Schenn scores his 10th goal of the season assisted by Sean Couturier. Jakub Voracek goes to the box but the Flyers kill off the penalty! Flyers playing some good hockey so far in the period. Mason making some good saves. With over 3 minutes to play in the period, JT Miller ties the game up on Raffl’s interference penalty. At the end of the first period, it is 1-1 and the shots are 16-12 in favor of the Rangers.
Second period: A much different pace to start the period. The Rangers look like the faster team and it shows as early on in the period, Kreider scores his 7th goal of the year to make it 2-1 Rangers. Lets just say the Flyers powerplay is broken lately. 2 chances early and the Rangers kill both of them off. Flyers just can’t get anything started on the powerplay. Shayne Gostisbehere had a breakaway late in the period and almost finishes off an unbelievable move but it was stopped by Lundqvist. The Flyers trail the Rangers 2-1 after 2 periods of play.
Third period: Flyers begin the period all over the Rangers. On problem, they hit the post twice. Just our luck. To make matters worse, Flyers get a holding penalty 5 minutes into the period. Flyers kill the Medvedev minor penalty. Flyers get a huge power play attempt with just over 10 minutes to play in the game, down by 1 goal. Wayne Simmonds scores to tie the game up at 2! Great back and forth hockey but the game will have to be settled in overtime. A huge point for the Flyers.
Overtime: Flyers start with Del Zotto, Giroux and Voracek. Read and Gostisbehere had a 2 on 1 and Read decided to shoot and missed the net high and wide. Lundqvist has made a series of amazing saves on Read and Gostisbehere during the overtime period. He’s the reason this game is still tied. Gostisbehere takes a high sticking penalty with 10.8 seconds left in overtime. Flyers win the defensive zone faceoff and we go to a shootout.
Shootout: Flyers shoot first.
Round one: Gostisbehere denied by Lundqvist. Zuccarello scores
Round two: Giroux denied by Lundqvist. Boyle denied by Mason.
Round three: Voracek denied by Lundqvist.
Flyers fall to the Rangers in a shootout 3-2.
