New York Mets’ reliever Jenrry Mejia has received a permanent ban from the game of baseball. Mejia was given the ban today after testing positive for PEDS a third time. Adam Rubin broke the story:

Mejia, 26, first tested positive back in April of 2015 resulting in an 80 game suspension. Once cleared, Mejia was on the Mets’ roster for three weeks before once again landing in hot water. In July, Mejia was suspended for 162 games, the length of a full MLB season, for testing positive a second time. This is not the first time a player has tested positive on multiple occasions. Josh Hamilton was suspended twice while still a member of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays farm system. Hamilton, whose drug related issues are well known, received a one year ban from baseball after his second positive test for drugs of abuse.

Jennry Mejia’s suspension is a first for the MLB:

There is a famous quote attributed to George Santayana: “Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it”. It is clear that Jenrry Mejia did not learn from his past mistakes and will now pay the price for it.
