Ghost Breaks Record, Devils Take Down Flyers In OT

Desperate to push themselves back into the playoff race, the Flyers found themselves trying not to fall asleep this afternoon against the Devils. This game started out as you would expect any Flyers/Devils to be. BORING right from the start. I mean it’s terrible how awfully predictable these games can be. The Devils absolutely smothered the Flyers throughout the first period, keeping them to only 2 shots. And one of those 2 came on the powerplay. The Devils were able to notch one on their powerplay. Joseph Blandisi was able to pull off a pretty slick move by putting his stick between his legs to get the puck past Michal Neuvirth in close. It was pretty awful to say the least and I would rather just try and forget about it.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.jsThe second period turned out to be kind of better. The Flyers were able to put a lot of shots on nets, finishing the period with 16 total. However, the Devils were able to keep the center pretty clogged up, meaning a lot of those shots weren’t in high danger zones. The Devils didn’t generate much but that’s really the name of their game…….which honestly is just really boring. I really feel for their fans. How do they put up with this game after game? I mean, whatever. Really not much to report here. The third period was kind of the same…..stuff. Well except for one minor detail, Shayne Gostisbehere broke the league rookie point streak record for a defenseman. He blasted a shot home on the powerplay giving him points in 11 straight games.

After that the game went to OT where Jake Voracek took a borderline (and when I say borderline I actually mean bs) hooking call against Andy Greene. The 4-on-3 commenced and the Flyers lost when Adam Henrique put one past Neuvirth. The end.

One thing to point out. Michael Del Zotto left the game during the third period and apparently could be out the rest of the season with a left wrist injury.

Goals:

Shayne Gostisbehere(10): Assisted by Claude Giroux(30)

Special Teams: Powerplay was 1 for 4 while penalty kill was 2 for 2.

Player of the game: Shayne Gostisbehere

Besides breaking a league record he also played a strong game. He was all over the ice and finished with a Corsi for of 15. Which just happened to be highest on the team along with Jake Voracek. He also spells his name with a Y which, in my opinion, is pretty neat. Plus he did some more sick spinzzz.
