Things have gotten interesting at the NFL Owner’s Meetings in Boca Raton, Florida. It seems possible that Howie Roseman was the man behind the DeMarco Murray and Byron Maxwell deals. Chip Kelly, when asked about those signings during a Q&A session with media, had some intriguing answers:
So Chip makes it clear — those big deals for Maxwell and Murray were Howie's doing….Howie hasn't denied that when asked. #eagles

Chip Kelly adamant that Murray, Maxwell contracts signed by Howie Roseman. "I wouldn't pay anybody. I'm frugal."

Chip Kelly said that Howie Roseman negotiated the Byron Maxwell and DeMarco Murray contracts last offseason.

Chip is absolutely correct about Howie deciding how much Maxwell/Murray would make, btw. #Eagles

Kelly has made it clear that things in the Philadelphia front office were less than ideal as well.
Chip says he didn't ask for full control, but he wasn't happy with how the front office was structured. #eagles

Chip is coming the closest he ever has, IMO, to basically saying he didn't think Howie was good at his job. #eagles

Chip said he didn't ask for total control, only that "I didn't like" the way things were set up. It was Lurie's idea for control. #Eagles

Was Chip Kelly really the reason for the Eagles’ downfall this season? Could there have been a Lurie/Roseman coup since last offseason? In reality, Chip Kelly, the coach, still under-performed. The roster has talent but it was not utilized to its fullest ability. However, Chip Kelly has been much more open about the front office situation in Philadelphia since his firing. It appears that neither Kelly or the rest of the front office were consistently on the same page. That, in and of itself, is a recipe for disaster.
