According to Nate Haber, the agent of Raiders sixth round pick TE Brandon Myers, his client is signing a four year deal with the team.
Pro Football Talk is reporting that an unnamed source is verifying the signing as well as the numbers that include a signing bonus of $90,000. The deal is for a minimum base salary with bonuses in place for the fourth year of the deal.
Myers is the first player drafted by the Raiders from this year’s class to sign a contract. Not only is he the first to sign, but the Raiders already cut the guy that was they drafted just three spots ahead of him in Styker Sulak. Leave it to the Raiders to cut a draft pick before they have even signed one. Although consider that as leverage for Al Davis. He sends a message that says “No draft pick is guaranteed a contract” and the others fall into line to sign their deals.
Of course with the curious news of Louis Murphy signing with super douche agent Drew Rosenhaus, you can bet that leverage is worthless to them. Although, Rosenhaus is known for getting his rookie clients into camp on time. The Raiders will only have problems with this arrangement when Murphy is two years into his five year deal and is playing well. Then the grumblings of a new contract will begin to surface.
But, I would bet that Raiders other fourth round pick, Slade Norris, is just about standing outside Al’s door, pen in hand. Expect the announcement of his signing to happen in the coming days.
Well played sir!
