Raiders preaseason schedule Cowboys Bears Niners Seahawks oh my!

The Oakland Raiders preseason schedule was made public today and there are some familiar faces as well as a more unusual foe. The Raiders travel early, with their first two weeks being in the central time zone and end with two at home.

Week one they travel to Dallas to face off with the Dallas Cowboys. From 1993 to 2004 the Raiders and the Cowboys played in ever preseason. This will be the Raiders second trip to the new Cowboys Stadium. They lost in Dallas on Thanksgiving last year. The Raiders had beaten the Cowboys in week one of the preseason in 2009 in Oakland. The Raiders hold a 17-9 preseason mark against the ‘Boys.

Week two finds the Raiders on the move again. This time to legendary Soldier Field to face off against the Chicago Bears. The last time the Raiders met Da Bears in the preseason the Raiders came away with a 20-3 victory in 1990. The last regular season game between the two teams was in 2007 where the Monsters of the Midway won 17-6.

Week three is the annual Battle of the Bay. The San Francisco 49ers won last season’s matchup in 3 Comm Monster Candlestick Park. This will be the tenth straight matchup between the two cross-bay rivals. This will be the 38th matchup of the two teams and the Raiders hold a one game edge at 19-18.

The preseason closes with the Seattle Seahawks making their first trip to Oakland since 2002. The former AFC West rivals have met in Seattle to close the preseason in each of the past three years. The last regular season game between the two teams was a forgettable Monday Night Game in 2006 that the Seahawks won 16-0 in a rainstorm at Qwest Field.

The regular season schedule has not yet been announced, but the Raiders have regular season games against both the 49ers and the Seahawks. The Raiders will travel to San Francisco to play the Niners at Candlestick-a stadium the Raiders called home for their first two years of existence. The Seahawks will travel down the coast to Oakland for their regular season tilt against the Raiders.

The Raiders and Niners meeting up on the all important third week of the preseason will give the Bay Area sports fans a chance to get a good preview of both of the Bay Area teams. It is the third game where the starters tend to play deep into the game, and is considered the tune-up game for the season.
