Raiders add legacy player

The Oakland Raiders inked linebacker Bruce Davis, Jr off the San Francisco 49ers practice squad and released defensive tackle Jay Alford in transactions released today.

Davis was signed as an insurance policy becuase of a spate of injuries to their linebacker position. Starting outside linebacker Quentin Groves has hamstring injury. Former starting weakside linebacker Thomas Howard has a knee injury. The other linebackers on the roster Travis Goethel and Ricky Brown have been nursing injuries of their own.

Davis is the son of Bruce Davis who was an offensive lineman for the Oakland and LA Raiders from 1979 through 1987. He started 67 games before finishing his career with the Houston Oilers.

Jay Alford saw limited action as a reserve defensive tackle. With the injury to John Henderson leaving his status in question, Alford’s release is a bit of a surprise.
