Huff wins AFC defensive player of the week award

Oakland Raiders defensive back Michael Huff was named the AFC player of the week for his week five performance against the San Diego Chargers.

Huff won the award over Aaron Kampman, Jason Jones, and D.J. Williams. He had 11 tackles with one sack which also forced the fumble that Tyvon Branch ran into the end zone for a touchdown to seal the game.

This was the first time that an Raider defensive back to win the defensive player of the week honors since Phillip Buchanon in week 11 of 2003.

In an ironic twist, Phillip Rivers, the man from whom Huff stripped the crucial fumble, was nominated for the offensive player of the week award. It shows how much that one play figured into Huff’s selection.
