In a strange twist of fate, Raiders running back Michael Bush has been arrested under suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was booked into Clark County Jail early Saturday morning, according to WLKY in Louisville Kentucky.
Bush was visiting his family and friends in Louisville and was set to return to the Bay Area on Monday. He was pulled over and arrested around 4:30 am on Saturday in Jeffersonville, Kentucky. No word yet on his blood alcohol content.
Bush grew up in Louisville, played high school ball at Louisville Male High School and later attended the University of Louisville where he starred at running back. The Raiders drafted him in round four of the 2007 draft.
Bush was set to become eligible for free agency once the CBA is resolved. After several seasons as the primary backup to Darren McFadden, he is slated to be a hot commodity as a free agent. This drunk driving charge could throw a wrench into those plans.
Al Davis has never shied away from players with incidents like this on their record in the past so it stands to reason Bush’s best bet would be to re-sign with the Raiders. Regardless of where he signs, this could cost Bush a lot of money in the free agent market.
Bush is a player who was a Heisman candidate after he opted to return for his senior season. Then he broke his leg so badly that he fell from a surefire first round prospect, all the way to the fourth round. That was just bad luck. This is a bad decision. Either way, Bush’s road has not been a smooth one and this drunk driving charge just made it a lot rougher.
