New compressed NFL timeline

The lockout is now over and it took a little longer than predicted as of this time last week, which means that what was already going to be an accelerated timeline is now compressed further. Here is the schedule for the next few days and weeks.

Monday (today)

Not a lot will happen. Teams will begin rigorously preparing for camp. They will also receive an official free agent list. This is necessary due to the new CBA rules that changed which players will be unrestricted and restricted free agents. The league will also announce new 90 man training camp roster.

Tuesday (7am PST)

Undrafted free agent signing period begins.

Players will be allowed to enter team facilities for the first time.

Teams can begin discussing trades.

Teams can sign their own rookies.

Teams can negotiate with free agents, but not sign official deals.

Wednesday

Raiders begin training camp in Napa, California (some teams start camp as late as Saturday).

Thursday (1:01pm PST)

Teams can begin cutting players.

Friday (3:00pm PST)

Free Agency signing period begins.

Teams can officially announce signing their own free agents.

Teams can begin renegotiating contracts of players under contract.

Thursday, August 4

New league year starts.

Teams must be under new salary cap of $120.375 million (plus $3 million borrowed from future salaries and $3.5 million in bonuses allowed).
