Former Raider Chester McGlockton dies at 42

The Raider family has lost a great many members in recent years. But the latest passing was not one that anyone expected to happen so soon. Former Raider Pro Bowl defensive tackle Chester McGlockton passed away at the young age of 42. He passed in the night of unknown causes.

Raiders Chief Executive Amy Trask released this statement:

“The thoughts and prayers of the Raider Nation are with the McGlockton family during this difficult time…”

McGlockton was the 16th overall pick by the then Los Angeles Raiders in the 1992 NFL Draft and played with the Silver and Black from 1992-97, earning four straight Pro Bowl selections as a Raider.

He moved on after that to play for the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos, and New York Jets. He retired after 12 years in the league. He has been a Stanford assistant coach for the past two seasons.

Though he played several years for Raider rivals in Kansas City and Denver, once his playing days were over, he still considered himself to be a Raider and looked fondly on his best days in Los Angeles and Oakland. He attended several Raider Legend signing events in recent years and was a popular get for autograph seekers.

McGlockton is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Tim Brown and McGlockton were very close during their days together with the Raider. They played in many Pro Bowls together. Brown fondly remembered his great friend today.

“It is with great sorrow I acknowledge the death of one of my best friends in the world, Chester McGlockton. ‘Big Boy’ as he was affectionately known by me, passed away overnight. Chester and I were almost inseparable during our days together with the Raiders. But what we quickly learned when he went to KC, our bond as friends became even stronger, not broken.

“My knees are still weak and my hands are still shaking as I write this but I needed to put something in writing to honor a great man! What made him great was he LOVED the LORD! I saw that transition with him, in fact we made it at the same time and is one of the reasons our bond was inseparable.

“Chester and I were not ashamed to tell each other I love you, so in conclusion I LOVE YOU BIG BOY, sleep well!! Continue to pray for his 2 little girls and his wife!”
