Those Raiders fans who were interested in the Raiders making some moves in day two of the 2012 free agency market came away disappointed.
The Raiders continue to wait patiently while the market falls and their money can stretch farther.
Even while waiting the team was still making moves, however. Today the team released two more players – G Cooper Carlisle and DT John Henderson.
Carlisle is 34 and been with the Raiders since 2007 and has started for the team ever since, missing only one game in that time. He specialized in the zone blocking scheme but has been able to survive in the power blocking scheme that Hue Jackson brought with him. He was due $3.3 million this season and his release saves the Raiders $2.1 million against the cap.
Henderson is 33 and has been with the Raiders since 2010. He was the 9th overall pick in the 2002 draft. He came to the Raiders after being release by the Jacksonville Jaguars and had been a backup DT to rotate in for depth but had issues with injuries throughout the season. His release had been speculated most of the offseason. The Raiders announced that he failed a physical which was why he was released. He was due $4 million this season and according to Paul Gutierrez of CSN he had a cap number of $4.75 million.
The two cuts put the Raiders almost $10 million under the cap.
There were reports today that the Raiders were also going to look at former Texans RG Mike Brisiel. Brisiel is 29 and has started 47 of 50 games he’s played in for the Texans. He’s 6’5″, 300 lbs. Raiders OC Gregg Knapp was the Texans QB coach last season and Raiders OL coach Frank Pollack served as an assistant OL coach in Houston as well so both are assuredly familiar with Brisiel.
