The guy protecting Derek Carr’s blind side sees good things from the Raiders’ offensive line in 2016.
“We have the guys to be the best offensive line in the league,” left tackle Donald Penn told CSNBayArea.com via Pro Football Talk.
Penn signed a two-year, $14 million contract to stay with the Raiders. Former Raven Kelechi Osemele, one of the top free-agent signings of the offseason, is projected to line up next to Penn at left guard with Rodney Hudson at center, Gabe Jackson at right guard and Austin Howard at right tackle.
Pro Football Focus ranked the Raiders’ offensive line sixth in 2015, second in pass blocking and 18th in run-blocking.
The Raiders finished 7-9 in 2015, their best record since they finished 8-8 in 2011. Being the best offensive line in March doesn’t mean a whole lot when the games start for real, but if Penn and his linemates do live up to the hype the Raiders have a shot at their first winning season and first playoff appearance since 2002.
