Rather than run some live NHL Trade blog, I’ll just be updating this page over the course of the day with whatever Sens news becomes available.
8:48 am: Bruce Garrioch is Tweeting that a guy Senators have been watching for awhile is P.A. Parenteau Drafted by assistant GM Tim Murray. Nice fit. Tough to get.
According to Chris Botta, the price for P.A. Parenteau is a first round pick and a player. With one goal and three assists in four games against the Senators this season, we have seen his vision and offensive abilities on display. Although he looked exceptional last night, a first round pick and a player seems like too steep of a price for a player who becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
As much as I would like to believe that a guy like Parenteau might be willing to sign and be close to home, he’s from Hull, if he’s unwilling to take a hometown discount to spend the bulk of his career flanking John Tavares, I’m skeptical that he’ll be cost efficient.

According to Bryan Murray in an interview on Sportsnet, the Senators are not interested in paying the premium prices necessary to acquire a rental player. At this point in time, the Senators are not looking to add to the blueline yet. He believes that they have tightened up somewhat and that they have got two young guys in Binghamton who they feel could play next season. I’m assuming that Murray is referring to Wiercioch and Borowiecki. That seems… optimistic.

Ben Bishop is in Ottawa. I just received a text from a friend who just saw him, “Just saw Bishop. He is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge!”
After I texted back, he responded with “Very tall. Not as thick as Lehner.”

According to The Bruins Blog, former Senators defenceman Joe Corvo is disappointed that the league did not punish Kyle Turris for his hit on Corvo during the last meeting between the two teams.
“That’s ridiculous. I think if you look back at the game before [in Boston Jan. 31], I hit him clean in center ice,” said Corvo. “I made it a point not to get my elbow up in his face. But apparently he didn’t give me the same courtesy.
“So, let’s just say I’ll be looking for him right off the bat.”
I’m in favor of anything that could lead to Corvo rolling around on the ice acting like he’s dead.

Per Dean Brown on Twitter, Ben Bishop will not report to the Senators. He will officially be transferred from Peoria to Binghamton. He will be in Binghamton later today.
According to Bruce Garrioch, the Ottawa Senators have traded Brian Lee to the Tampa Bay Lightning for defenceman Matt Gilroy. Gilroy is a former NCAA Hobey Baker Award Winner who was also once heavily pursued by the Murray regime when he was a collegiate free agent.
On a one-year contract worth $1.0M, the 27 year old Gilroy’s salary is actually $75k above what Lee is slated to earn this season. He also joins the likes of Matt Carkner and Filip Kuba as another impending unrestricted free agent.
Much like the inclusion of Mike Comrie in the Chris Campoli trade from a few years ago, his acquisition should simply be viewed as an opportunity to audition for a job next season.
Known as a puck-moving defenceman, the 27 year old Gilroy offers a different skill set than the one that Lee provided. Unfortunately as Scott (@Wham_City) pointed out on Twitter, the team that gives up the most shots against in the league just traded for Tampa’s worst defenceman at preventing shots.
Lovely.
For awhile now, fans in this city have stigmatized Lee because of who he wasn’t – Marc Staal or Anze Kopitar. As easy as it was to make Lee a target of criticism, there was nothing wrong with him being a young and inexpensive bottom pairing/seventh defenceman that was under team control for two more seasons.
Assuming that the organization fills the holes that could potentially be created from the respective losses of Kuba and Carkner, at the very least, this transaction will most likely open up a spot for a prospect Mark Borowiecki next season.
