For their next installment in their popular gaming franchise, EA Sports has opted to let fans ultimately decide which NHL player they want to adorn the cover of NHL 13. By creating a 60-player tournament bracket in which every organization was represented by two players, EA Sports has encouraged fans to get out and vote for their favorite player(s). I’m assuming that EA created this tournament in an effort to devote man-power and countless hours debating the merits of their own selection for the coveted cover. Instead, I’m hoping that they are choosing to use this time to make NHL 13 as realistic of a simulation as possible; complete with Henrik Lundqvist meltdowns after each goal mouth scramble.
Now that the field has been narrowed, having survived a first round matchup with teammate Jason Spezza and a second round straight up vote that separated the top 16 vote getters from the rest of the field, Erik Karlsson is now matched up with the aforementioned Lundqvist in EA Sports’ equivalent of the Sweet 16.
Beginning today, the round of 16 voting will not end until June 4th and a reminder to all, the number of votes that one can cast is unlimited. Having hosted the 2012 NHL All-Star Game, fans of such a known ballot stuffing fan base must be relishing the opportunity to pump up Karlsson’s vote totals once again.
