No Chick-fil-A, No Recruits

Odds are you have never heard of Cassanova McKinzy.  Until yesterday, I had no idea he existed.  But, with one simple statement he made yesterday during his signing day announcement, McKinzy proved to the country that he is our nation’s smartest 18-year old.

A linebacker from Birmingham, Alabama, McKinzy had narrowed his list of school choices to Auburn and Clemson.  As he announced yesterday, he eventually decided that Auburn was a better fit for him and faxed his letter of intent to play with the Tigers of Lee County.

When asked why he did not choose Clemson, McKinzy revealed why he is the brightest mind among all high school seniors in the land:

“[It was] kind of the environment and plus they had no Chick-fil-A on campus…”

ENOUGH SAID.  YOU’VE CONVINCED ME YOU MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE.  At Ole Miss, we had a Chick-fil-A in the student union and if it had not been in there, I can count the times on one hand I would have gone in the student union.  The lure of Chick-fil-A was so powerful that on those mornings when I had an internal debate on whether or not to go to class, the fact that I could get a chicken biscuit OR TWO usually convinced me to go to campus.

One semester, a few friends and I even arranged our schedules so that we could have an hour between classes in the morning to allow ourselves to stuff our faces with those buttery gifts from heaven.  Sure, lunch there was pretty special too, but chicken biscuits are just, I can’t put into words how – OH I WANT ALL OF THEM RIGHT NOW.

Can you imagine being a scholarship athlete with a meal plan and a card that you just have to swipe to get all the Chick-fil-A you can handle?  I would burn through that money in half a semester and gain 75 pounds.

Anyway, according to the Yahoo! article above, Clemson actually does have a Chick-fil-A on campus, but McKinzy wasn’t made aware of it during his visit to campus.  So let this be a lesson to all schools hosting recruits during official campus visits.  If you don’t have a Chick-fil-A on campus, build one immediately.  And if you do have one, it is absolutely necessary to start the official visit weekend at Chick-fil-A.
