With the news that right tackle Austin Golson is at the very least “exploring other options” (TOTALLY TRANSFERRING), the depth chart at right tackle for Ole Miss isn’t so much of a depth chart as it is a collection of names and things that will be drawn out of a hat to find a starter. Golson, a native of Prattville, Alabama, which is about an hour from Auburn, is said to be looking to leave Ole Miss to be closer to actual family members who are ill, and not just the Auburn Family.
Golson spent all of spring practice at right tackle and was expected to start and/or contribute heavily next season. Without him, Ole Miss has whatever the word for “limited to the one millionth power” is for its options at right tackle.
Based on my examination of the roster, I’ve established what is most likely Ole Miss’ depth chart at the position responsible for blocking the first guy Bo Wallace can see.
1) Fahn Cooper – junior college transfer who has yet to arrive on campus; Ole Miss has always had wonderful success with JUCOs who get to campus in the summer (by “wonderful”, I mean HELLISH BOUTS OF HAIR-TEARING ANGUISH)
2) Offensive line coach Matt Luke pulling his old jersey out and hoping no one notices
3) A smattering of people you’ve never heard of
4) The sawhorse pictured above
5) Jeremy Liggins, the 300-pound, fourth-string quarterback
6) An All-2A, Honorable Mention, North District MPSA tackle, who really provided a spark for the scout team in the spring
7) Three student managers stacked on each other’s shoulders like something the Muppets tried once upon a time
8) Playing with two left tackles and have one of them snap ball
9) Run the A-11 offense, penalties be damned
10) Both of Houston Nutt’s Cotton Bowl trophies (first time in 50!, I say, I say, 50 years! – not sure why Forghorn Leghorn just came out there) spackled together with “One Heartbeat” DVDs
