Talk about depth issues; you do the unthinkable, you return a kickoff for a Touch Down for the first time in 32 years of Tampa Bay Buccaneers football, and you cant even make the team the next year. Of course when you understand the limitations of a 53 man roster, you realize that you cannot keep a man who only returns KickOffs, and Spurlock simply did not cut it as a receiver when he was on the team. Now flash forward to 2010 and Michael Spurlock is running in two directions, because he is making waves as a wide receiver and he is inching closer to making this roster on the merits of being a good receiver and a returner capable or breaking the big one. But its a mean monster that one eyed creature named Depth, as Tampa Bay now has 3 men on its roster who have returned KOs for Touch Downs, in fact two of them have doubled as Punt Returners for TDs too! Last season Spurlock came back to fill in for Clifton Smith who had to be sidelined for good because of the league’s new Concussion policy, and returned a punt for a TD against the Saints that took the game into New Orleans into overtime and ended up a victory over the eventual SuperBowl Champs.

Kareem Huggins on the other hand WAS the victim of an injury last year, and is back with a vengeance in 2010 and is seriously putting pressure on Derrick Ward for not only a roster spot, but a Job! With Carlos Brown running hard against the Chiefs, and Ward going out injured, Derrick has got to realize that his position on the Bucs in a Salary Cap free year where big salaried players can be cut without consequence, is on very thin ice so to speak. One of the things Ive mentioned during the offseason is that this Buccaneers team is missing a running back who can break a 75 yard TD run at any time, from anywhere on the field. Kareem Huggins fits that bill. Derick Ward does not.

Its a nice problem to have for the Buccaneers, who are looking at possible contributions if not Starts themselves from each and every draft pick in 2010.
