Time to face up to it, Josh Freeman has arrived

It’s time to put certain words and thoughts in the past. Words like Potential, will one day, future, hope, all really do not apply anymore. Time to start using the word Veteran. Last year Freeman showed us poise, the ability to shrug off a bad play and come right back.  But too often last year he came back with another bad play, an interception, trying to force the ball into a spot because he knows what his gifts are. Yesterday, Josh Freeman threw the ball away. Yesterday Josh Freeman took off running when he had a lane, he refused to go down when a defender tried to arm tackle him. Even when he runs, Freeman is using his smarts to get himself more yardage. Observe:

The Bucs know that Josh Freeman is their best hope to win, and they rally around him. In the third period, Freeman was hit after the play had been called dead, and instantly Donald Penn went after the accused, as if to say ” You don’t mess with our guy, you do and you mess with us” !!

Having injured his thumb early in the second preseason game, No.5 did not play at all the remaining two scrimmage games. While he looked efficient last week, that was just not enough to get a good reading. But now enough is in to see the contrast. Look at the tape of Freeman here in Charlotte last season; he forced passes in where there was nowhere to throw the ball. This year, he is tossing them out of bounds. And the only future we’re talking about is what will he do against a brilliant defense like the Pittsburgh Steelers. I guarantee you THEY wont be saying he will be a good QB one day.
