Defense made some plays, but not enough; must return to ‘bend but don’t break’ with BENGALS game.

Two long touchdown passes scorched the Bucs defense in a game they were otherwise in at the time. Hmm, where does that sound familiar? Um week 1 2009 against the Cowboys? We had an excuse back then though…we were running a new style of defense. We were also missing one of our best defenders. Oops. As it would seem, missing a proven starter in the secondary can have catostrophic effects. But this year the defense wont get that starter back, they are going to have to grow with the new guy in the secondary. And part of that involved growing with lots of new guys. Twin rookie defensive tackles Brian Price and Gerald McCoy have been spotted around the Quarterback as of late, but just not near enough! They will need time; time to grow in maturity, size. Time to learn moves that pros know, and that will come; maybe not in week 4, maybe not even in 2010, but they will come. The players know they are close; players like Geno Hayes are all over the field, like on this play were either he or Styles G White is going to plaster a Steeler trying to run a reverse out of the Wild Cat!

Then you have the end of the game, and even though its called garbage time, the Bucs call it a chance to put something on tape. Quincy Black sure put some video on, and it was this play that fired up the offense enough to get a little momentum even if it was the end of the game.

Its plays like these that will get the defense back to their ways of bend but dont break. Instead of not turning around or watching a ball bounce off your hands for a TD. Those play are hopefully behind the Bucs as they go into their bye and into week 4 at Cincinnati.
