Facing the Blount truth, Cadillac Williams surely realizes his number of carries are destined to be reduced with the outbreak of Legarrette Blount. Averaging almost 7 yards a carry, Blount was the guy everyone in the stands wanted to see lined up with time running out and the Bucs miraculously on the Ram 1 yard line. Yet not one of us felt the same way ten seconds later when a Bucs win was secured in the mitts of the man named Carnell.
Now that’s not to mention his key first down pickup on third and 3 where he takes the draw play from the shotgun.
With Williams as the lead back on all but one series, the Bucs found themselves outclassed in the first half; especially in the run dept. Rams rushers had rung up 121 rushing yards, in the first half alone! The Bucs? …37. With Blount taking over in the second half, that would all change. Establishing the run, the Bucs gave Josh Freeman more options in the 2nd half as the Rams had to respect the run game. This was evident as the play action pass play opened up for Freeman in the 3rd period. Without a doubt Cadiilac has secured a spot in the lineup with the skills he has mastered over his years. Coach Raheem Morris feels more secure with Williams in for his pass protection abilities keeping franchise QB Josh Freeman safe so he can produce even more 4th Quarter comebacks. Then you have the running back’s ability to make things happen with the ball in the air attack, something that was NOT a big part of Williams resume going back to his ‘share the load with Ronnie Brown’ Auburn days. Now, he’s a sure target, one you should expect to see on third downs for some time to come.
