And now for something completely different (e.g., Meetin’ the Mets)

The Brewers finished off the Nationals, 3-1, Wednesday afternoon, to sweep the 3-game home series: (Wednesday’s box)…Claudio Vargas got the start, went 6 IP, gave up a lone earned run, but the “W” went to Derrick Turnbow in relief. Sad news: J.J. Hardy went 0-for-4, ending his hit streak at 19.

But the first true test of the season comes on Friday, when the Brewers visit Shea and the Mets. The Mets’ sport the 2nd best record in the NL at 21-12, .636, behind the Brewers. The scheduling gods are pleased, too, as the Crew sends their top 3 starters to the hill:

Friday: Jeff Suppan, 5-2, 2.63; 0-1, 5.40 vs. the Mets in ’06
Saturday: Ben Sheets, 2-2, 4.04; 0-1, 7.20 vs. the Mets in ’06

Sunday: Chris Capuano, 5-0, 2.31; 0-1, 4.50 vs. the Mets in ’06

…hopefully, all three will remember this (or Mike Maddux will remind them), in order to avenge last year’s losses
…meanwhile the Mets’ Tom Glavine and John Maine, having pitched earlier in the week, are not on the docket.
The winner of this series will have all the confidence in the world going forward…and the Brewers already have some momentum going in.
