“But,” Yost added, “it’s not an endless rope either.”

So sayeth the skipper after the Brewers got drubbed by the Rockes Friday night, 10-6. The loss, coupled with the Cubs win over the Astros earlier in the day, puts Milwaukee only three up in the loss column.
The quote was referring to how much rope that Yost and pitching coach Mike Maddux were giving starter Chris Capuano; Cappy allowed 5 ER in 3 IP, and was spelled by Carlos Villanueva; Villanueva then allowed 5 ER in the next 3 IP. Villanueva gave up 3 gopher balls to the Rockies.
On the brighter side, Prince Fielder smacked his 30th home run of the year–a solo shot in the 3rd off Rockies’ starter Jeff Francis–and Ryan Braun added two more homers, both off Francis, also.
Capuano’s job in the rotation appears to be safe, for now, as the Crew only has one left-handed starter this season after the trade of Doug Davis. Zach Jackson is in the wings in Nashville, but his 4.72 ERA and 42 BB’s in 108.67 IP and 1.45 WHIP aren’t exactly tearing up the PCL; Manny Parra, also a lefty, just got promoted to Nashville…but his 3-1, 1.73 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 25 K’s in 26.0 IP may not stay on the back burner for long. I’m guessing that Capuano gets two more chances before Yost pulls the trigger.
