Suppan has quality start in 8-2 pounding of Cubs

I always hold my breath when Jeff Suppan takes the hill…especially after the fourth inning.
But Soup’s start Wednesday in Wrigley went better than most would think–getting a lead-off home run from Rickie Weeks, Suppan took a 1-0 lead into the fourth, when Bill Hall singled in Ryan Braun, followed by Corey Hart doubling in Hall, to spot Soup a 3-0 cushion. Suppan finally gave up solo gopher balls to Derrek Lee in the bottom of the fourth, and then another to Geovanny Soto in the bottom of the seventh, to exit with just two earned runs over 6.33 IP. With a Joe Dillon insurance run in the 8th, and two more courtesy of former Cub Jason Kendall’s RBI double in the 9th, plating Hardy and Gwynn, the Brewers cruised to an easy 8-2 victory, to take the first two games of the series.
Braun and Kendall each collected three of the fourteen hits for the Crew; the Brewers, however, left 11 on base as team; six Brewers left a total of eight runners on base with runners in scoring position and with two outs.
David Riske fanned 3 over two innings of work.
Dave Bush goes for the sweep tomorrow.
