Okay, I kid because I care. Prince Fielder harmed no livestock on Wednesday evening but he did have his first multi-homer game of the season to give the Brewers a 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Both homers were two-run shots. The first came in the bottom of the first to help get the Brewers out to a 3-0 lead over Cole Hamels. The second came in the bottom of the eighth again off of Hamels which put the Brewers up for good at 5-4.
Prince will get the glory for his two home runs but the real stars of the night were Dave Bush, Mitch Stetter and Derrick Turnbow. The bullpen has been decimated by over use in the past week and Bush needed to pitch deep into the game. Bush responded by working into the seventh. He gave up four runs on eight hits; three of the hits were home runs.
Mitch Stetter continued to impress as he worked two scoreless innings and struck out three to pick up the win. Stetter has provided a second lefty in the bullpen and has eased the workload of Brian Shouse who has been tiring as of late.
The current whipping boy for the Milwaukee Brewers, Derrick Turnbow, came on and worked a scoreless ninth to pick up his first save in exactly one year. It was on April, 23rd 2007, that Turnbow last closed out a game when he shut down the Cubs. Turnbow did walk So Taguchi but struck out two batters to give the Brewers their second win in a row.
For the record, again, no farm animals were harmed at Miller Park on Wednesday night. In fact, cameras caught Prince in the dugout after his second home run mouthing the words, “No Meat.”
