Had you told me before the start of game two Saturday night that the Red Sox would have three errors against the Brewers I would have bet the house on a Brewers win. Unless, of course, you would have also mentioned that the Brewers would have four errors of their own.
As usual, too many mental and physical mistakes cost the Brewers and they lost their second game in less than 12 hours to the BoSox by a score of 7-6. Salomon Torres blew the save and took the loss to fall to 3-1 on the season. The Brewers have lost four straight and now sit at 20-23, tied with the Reds for last in the NL Central.
Dave Bush got through six innings although he gave up five runs, four of which were earned. He gave up the lead in the first and Boston got out to a 2-0 advantage. Two more in the third and one in the fifth had the Brewers down 5-0 with no signs of life.
The Crew rallied for three in the sixth and seventh to take a 6-5 lead but that’s when Torres came in and gave the game back to the Sox. Well, Torres and the horrendous defense played by the Brewers.
How bad are things for Rickie Weeks right now? Well, Weeks went 2-5 last night with two RBI and he’s still batting an ugly .190. Of course that is eight points higher than Mike Cameron but still seven points behind Bill Hall. That’s right math geeks; Cameron is hitting a whole .182 while Hall is ripping the cover off of the ball at .197. Honestly, three every day players batting worse than Bob Uecker? Really??? I’m scared to death but apparently manager Ned Yost feels there is no need to panic. I wonder when it will be time to panic. Will it be after today when the Brewers will likely be in last place by themselves or after the road trip when they will likely be at least seven games under .500? Ned, make the line-up changes that EVERYONE knows that have to happen or just quit right now. It’s close to becoming a joke. Hate on me if you want readers, but I guarantee you that I could get more out of this team than Yost is right now.
Anyway, I’m done with my regular rant for now. Sunday is a new day and Carlos Villanueva will look to snap this losing streak when he faces Josh Beckett. Good luck with that one, CV.
