Hot Soup and a 1-0 win over Braves

Jeff Suppan and Jo-Jo Reyes squared off in the best pitchers’ duel of the season…and the score remained 0-0 after 7½ innings.
But in the bottom of the 8th, Reyes was pulled after walking J.J. Hardy, giving way to reliever Blaine Boyer. Jason Kendall executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance Hardy to second, and, after Joe Dillon, pinch-hitting for Suppan, fanned on a caught foul tip, Rickie Weeks crushed a triple to deep left to plate Hardy for the lone run of the game. Salomon Torres came in to earn his 4th save of the year, aided by a diving stop by Hardy at short, and the Crew took the second game of the series.
But it was Suppan that kept the Brewers in the game, allowing just 4 hits and 5 walks en route to his season high 7 K’s on the night…more importantly, Suppan lasted eight innings to keep the ball out of the hands of the bullpen.
The Crew goes for the sweep–and getting back to .500–tomorrow afternoon.
