Thanks to all of the baseball fans who voted to get Corey Hart into the All-Star game next week. Brewers’ fans stepped up to the plate and voted over 8 million times to get Hart into the midsummer classic. The Brewers’ organization made a big push promoting Hart for the game. All staff at Miller Park wore I Hart New York t-shirts for the past four days. The team also set up several computers at the stadium where fans could cast their vote for Hart as much as they want.
Hart, 26, is in his second full season with the Brewers. He’s batting .292 with 15 home runs and 57 RBI. He also leads the team with 13 stolen bases. Hart’s success in large part can be attributed to other teams pitching around Prince Fielder. Hart has taken advantage of the chances and will now be heading to New York next week along with fellow All-Stars Ryan Braun and Ben Sheets.
This is a great honor for Hart but it is bad financially for the Brewers. Hart is eligible for arbitration this off-season and will no doubt command more money now that he can put National League All-Star on his resume. I think Hart will go along with Ryan Braun as a cornerstone of the franchise and I expect the Brewers to lock Hart up long-term after they exchange arbitration figures this winter. I’m hoping to see a 5-6 year contract in the range of $30-45 million. That will lock Hart up for two years of free agency and keep him as a Brewer through the 2013 or 2014 season.
