Brewers’ GM Doug Melvin added two more players to the Brewers’ 40-man roster–both late season additions in ’08.
First Melvin inked right-handed middle reliever Todd Coffey to a one-year deal for 2009 on Monday, only to then sign Mike Lamb to a deal on Tuesday.
The Brewers’ 40-man roster now stands at 37 players.
Lamb played in 11 games for the Brewers in ’08 after being acquired from the Twins. Lamb, 33, hit .273 for the Crew, but his left-handed (and inexpensive) bat serves as a great platoon for Hall…if Hall isn’t dealt now.
Coffey joined the Crew from the Reds in ’08, and proceeded to not allow a run in 9 appearances with the Brewers, while fanning 7 and walking a pair.
Coffey is likely to join the ’09 bullpen with David Riske, either Seth McClung or Carlos Villanueva, Jorge Julio, and Mitch Stetter. If new skipper Ken Macha opts for 12 pitchers, then the Brewers would still have 3 reliever spots to fill.
