Some positives to take away from Brewers’ Opening Day loss

The Brewers dropped their 2009 opener to the Giants, 10-6.  But there were a few bright spots that fans should take solace in:

1. The Crew worked up the pitch count on 2008 NL Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum to chase him out of the game after only three innings of work

2. Despite spotting the Giants a 3-0 lead after the first inning, the Crew battled back and even had a 5-4 lead at one point

3. Jeff Suppan has already tied his RBI total from last year

4. Rickie Weeks has an .800 OBP

5. The Crew didn’t make any errors

6. Macha ball produced 4 SB’s

Of course, in the glass half-empty category:

1. The Brewers could only score 1 run over the last 4 innings

2. The Crew left 11 runners on base, including 6 in scoring position with 2 outs

3. All 4 pitchers used gave up at least 1 earned run

4. Giants’ starter Tim Lincecum had as many strikeouts in 3 innings (5) as the entire Brewers’ pitching staff had in 8 innings
