Brewers’ prospect and Nashville Sounds’ shortstop Alcides Escobar was not in the Sounds’ line-up Thursday evening, foreshadowing Escobar going to San Diego on Friday night…to be on the Brewers’ 25-man roster as the Crew faces the Padres (sorry if I gave any of you a heart attack…).
Of course, this is still speculation…but given J.J. Hardy’s struggles of late, the move makes sense…Hardy could possibly still be dealt by the end of August, although he’d need to clear waivers.
How much playing time Escobar will see will depend a lot on how Hardy does…both are right-handed hitters, so a platoon is not likely.
The Brewers’ also need to replace Jeff Suppan on the 25-man roster, and Mike Burns is the favorite to be called up.
