Add Chris Narveson to the list of potential 2010 Brewers’ starters.
Narveson will make his first start of the year for the Brewers on Sunday, filling in for Manny Parra, who is still having back spasms. This brings the list of Brewers’ starters for the year up to 9:
1. Braden Looper
2. Yovani Gallardo
3. Manny Parra
4. Jeff Suppan
5. Dave Bush
6. Mike Burns
7. Carlos Villanueva
8. Seth McClung
9. Chris Narveson
None of these nine are free agents in the off season, so most–if not all–will return for a shot at the rotation in Maryvale. Two other internal candidates–Mark DiFelice and Claudio Vargas–have also pitched as starters in the past, and could also be given a look either later this season or in Maryvale. When you throw Chris Capuano and Mike Jones into the mix, the Brewers will likely have 12-13 internal candidates to consider for the 2010 rotation (Claudio Vargas is a free agent after the season, so his 2010 status with the Brewers is up in the air).
If Narveson shines today, he could get at least three more starts this season…now is the time for the Brewers to test their internal candidates as starters to see if any are viable for 2010.
