I could get used to this winning thing.

The Brewers won their third straight on Wednesday night, shutting out the Pirates in another easy win. Ryan Braun and Rickie Weeks continued their hot hitting, Alcides Escobar hit triples in back-to-back at-bats, and Yovani Gallardo struck out 10 in 5 innings.

Overall, not too much to complain about.

I am a little worried, though, about about how many pitches Yo had to throw to get those 10 K’s, and honestly, most times I would trade a few of those for another inning or two.  He’s made a habit of throwing a lot of pitches in the first inning — he threw 26 in the first frame last night — and that’s led to shorter outings than you’d like to see from your ace.  Yo has only gone 7 innings once this year (Opening Day), and his 5-inning outing last night was his second of the season.

Thankfully, the bullpen was rested after an off day and a very good outing by Dave Bush in the series opener, but with Jeff Suppan back in the rotation and Doug Davis continuing to struggle, the Brewers need Yo to be more economical with his pitches and trust his defense a little more so he can go deeper into games.

Other than that, though, it was a nice relaxing win.  The Brewers will go for the sweep in just a few hours.
