No, I don’t want it; I lived through two of them in my life, I don’t want to see another. But it’s those two season shortages of 1982 and 1987 that cause me to be such a pessimist at this time.
NFL Owners are successful people by any standard, they are filthy rich. They got that way by doing things their way, and they won’t change that methodology in a time of crisis.
Owners believe in their issues, and will stand by them.
The NFL is made up of players with extraordinary abilities. Take a moment and think about the real psyche of an actual NFL Player. They are strong willed, mentally tough, never backing down on the field.
They won’t back down off the field either.
We hear a lot from people in the mix on Twitter or other media, and for the most part it sounds like things will work out and there will be plenty of football to watch in 2011.
I’m not buying it. I was optimistic in 1982 when the players went out before the game and shook hands at midfield, I had no football to watch for months. In 1987 I was upbeat because I said “there is no way the NFL will repeat their mistake from only a few years ago”. I was right.. they didn’t repeat their mistake, they changed it up. They brought in scab players.
Think its still football in any respect? Ask me for a copy of any of the three Bucs scab games that year. They were terrible. You didn’t watch the XFL for long, you dont watch the UFL, you wont watch a half-assed product in the NFL either.
When have you seen so many NFL coaches fired and replaced with the interim replacements? Owners are refusing to pay anyone they dont have to because they know their resolve in this soon to be mess is strong.
I could be wrong, and I will share my recipe of Crow with everyone on this very blog if I am. ( Well, Bucstop.com II will be up by then!!) But I’ve been fooled before, I remain hopeful when I read the positives, but I don’t let them resonate, because I’ve heard those echos way to many times before.
