The Bucstop.com video series continues, the Top 5 Bucs of 2010 features No.5 Cody Grimm.
Grimm took over at Safety when Tanard Jackson received his suspension notice from the league for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. While Sabby Piscitelli was the backup, the Bucs felt Cody Grimm was a better long term answer at the position.
As you can see from the video, his first outing had some shaky moments. To be fair, he only had ONE shaky moment, letting Pittsburgh’s Mike Wallace get behind him in the end zone for a Touchdown. Actually, Grimm has positioning on him, he just loses the ball for a moment. Even later on in the same game Grimm was making some pretty good plays. It was average at best for Grimm, but his true value to the team was realized when an Aqib Talib interception vs Baltimore cost him his rookie season a bit early, rolling up his legs from behind while blocking for the corner, Grimm was lost for the year on I.R., and only a few plays later Sabby gave up a Touchdown pass.
The Run support was starting to show from Grimm’s efforts; the Bucs havn’t really had a complete safety like that since no. 47 came up to the line and punished runners. In only his second start, Grimm did what Lynch never did in all his years here, returned a pick 6 for a touchdown.
The Bucs secondary will be one of the best in the NFL next season thanks to the return of Cody Grimm.
