Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that former Brewer Chris Capuano is headed to the Big Apple (h/t MLB Trade Rumors):
Mets have signed pitchers Chris Capuano and Tyler Bucholz to one year deals.
Once Capuano agreed to break off negotiations with the Brewers, you had to figure it wouldn’t take long for him to land somewhere. His name was brought up in rumors with the Mets and Mariners almost immediately, and now it looks like he’ll be given a chance to win a spot in New York’s rotation.
On the surface, this seems to be a very good fit for Capuano. One thing that has plagued Capuano during his career is giving up home runs to right-handed hitters, but Citi Field is one of the most forgiving parks in the league when it comes to flyball pitchers. Off the field, there’s little doubt that Capuano has the mentality to make it in a city with such a highly critical media. He’s thoughtful, he’s funny, and he’ll answer every question honestly. They’ll love him as long as he pitches well, and as long as he stays healthy, there’s no reason to think he won’t.
Best of luck to Cappy. It’s sad to see him go — he was one of my favorite players from those mid-2000s teams that really made today’s success a possibility.
