Ron Roenicke, following the Brewers’ 1-0 loss to the Cubs on Monday night, on going with the struggling Kameron Loe in the 8th inning (transcribed by Brew Crew Ball):
No, it’s not a tough call. Not if he can go it’s not a tough call. He’s our eighth inning guy. In tie ball games he throws the eighth inning and Ax will follow with it.
Ned Yost, June 7, 2008, after Guillermo Mota blew a three-run lead in the 8th without recording an out in Colorado (as quoted by Tom Haudricourt):
“Mota’s been our eighth-inning pitcher the majority of the year,” Yost said. “We went to our eighth-inning pitcher.”
…
Had the Brewers gotten Kendall home [to expand the lead to 4], Yost said he would have stuck with Villanueva another inning. Why?
“It’s not a save situation,” Yost explained.
See, you guys complaining about Loe being used in the 8th just have no concept. Loe’s an “8th inning guy.” He pitches in the 8th. That’s what he does.
