Dissecting the Madness

Dissecting the MadnessOne thing that I would struggle with is open heart surgery.

I think a lot of people would.

Think about the situation for a minute; Your in a hospital with someones chest wide open and their life depending on you. A high pressure situation to say the least.

Heart Surgeons and NFL quarterbacks are similar, but in reason: Both have to be very sure handed when the pressure is on, both have someones life at steak, and both are paid top dollar to do what they do.

Quarterbacks don’t literally have someones life on the line, but it can feel like it as a fan with all the hopes and dreams of your favorite team falling on one person; the quarterback.

Enter Josh Freeman.

In 25 career starts for the Buccaneers, Freeman has 7 comeback victories in his young, 3 year career.

Freeman, 23, has showed poise beyond his years and is soon to be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL (if he isn’t already).

I know that rings ultimately define the great players from the good players, and that he has to get a ring to be considered elite. However, if you look at Freeman’s full body of work in terms of what he was able to do with rookies galore around him, hes definitely got everything and more to be a super bowl winning quarterback.

At 6’6” 250 lbs, Freeman is massive for a quarterback. Not only is he big, but he can move around and keep plays alive with his legs. Most importantly, hes intelligent, has a terrific work ethic, and is a true student of the game.

Freeman may not have thrown for a ton of yards, game after game last season, but what he is able to do in the clutch is nothing but masterful and is a very positive sign for the Bucs going forward along with the 25 TD passes to only 6 picks and a quarterback rating of 95.9 he posted in his second season, first season as the starting quarterback.

Quarterbacks are one of the most high pressure/ high paid jobs in the world and you have to be able to stay calm even when things look bleak. Luckily for Buccaneer fans, Freeman is very good at staying calm because when its in  the final minutes, the game is on the line, and everyone is in a frantic state; Josh’s blood pressure cools down and he dissects the madness.

Like a surgeon, right?
