Cincinnati is expected to challenge for the Central Division title and with Spring Training winding down they slapped around Randy Wolf and the Brewers in a 9-3 win at Maryvale Baseball Park. Starting pitcher Randy Wolf suffered his first loss as he was tagged for 7 runs in his 7 innings of work. His record in Spring Training moved to 3-1.
Wolf only allowed two players (Juan Francisco & Todd Frazier) to have multiple RBI games, but the Brewers bats couldn’t keep up as Aroldis Chapman went 5 innings of 2 run ball, allowing just 7 hits and striking out 6 batters. Mike Leake went 3 innings to end the game and allowed just 3 hits to back up Chapman in the win for the Reds.
Now on to the Highlights and lowlights:
– Ryan Braun hit his first double of Spring Training but was just 1-for-3 on the day and his average is just .161 for the Spring.
– Catcher George Kottaras, Wolf’s personal catcher, was the only Brewers player with more than one RBI as he made his one hit count for 2 of the teams 3 runs while stranding himself on base.
– Rickie Weeks continues to look just like his usual self and was the only Milwaukee batter with more than one hit as he went 2-for-3 but had one strike out. His average moved to .314 for Spring Training.
– Travis Ishikawa had a rough day going 0-for-2 while striking out both times at the plate.
The Brewers take on the Dodgers tomorrow, who will be playing with a split squad in the game. It’s scheduled for a 3:05pm Central start and will be televised on FSN. I’ll be watching and tweeting live so make sure to give our twitter account a follow (@thebrewersbar) and let’s interact during the game!
